About this artwork
There is a world that exists just below the surface of things — pressured, luminous, held in suspension. Atlantise is a painting about that threshold.
The field moves through blues that have no fixed sky — cerulean giving way to cobalt, cobalt dissolving into blue-violet — a depth without horizon, an atmosphere without air. Rising through it, a procession of gold vertical forms catches light against the fractured surface, each one belonging completely… to the world it inhabits. Across the field, glass beads catch and hold light like suspended frost, or the faint luminescence of deep water.
The title is invented. A place that doesn't exist on any map, that never did — built instead out of colour, light, and the particular stillness of things submerged. Atlantise has hung in the artist's home since it was painted. It is offered here for the first time.

I paint what I feel. After a life in finance, the palette knife became my primary way of speaking, plainly, without ornament. My subject is land, sea, and sky, held less as record than as memory of standing inside them.
I work in oils, building surface until it holds weight, something to be touched as much as seen, according to those who collect my work. Whether the canvas is small enough to hold in one hand or large enough to walk into, the intention doesn't change: a place that is as much interior as it is geographical.
In my mid-70s, I look for Self in the work, a thing being entirely itself, answerable to no one. The work says what I couldn't otherwise say. What you find in it is yours.
