About this artwork
A snow-laden branch rests at the edge of a frozen pond. The branch has not merely collected snow, it has been consumed by it, the wood visible only at the tips, the rest surrendered to generous, drooping lobes of accumulated white. Around it, glacial teal water holds its depth quietly. Beyond, a vast… warm expanse breathes outward to every edge.
Building its snow through layered passages and pure pigment impasto, the brushwork is deliberately present at the crests, not erased, not smoothed, but left as evidence of the hand and of time. The surrounding glacial field is worked in glazes, its edges always lost, its transitions always earned.
The painting asks the viewer to slow down and get lost. Not in drama, but in the interval, the held breath between one moment and the next.

I work in oils, building surface until it holds weight, something to be touched as much as seen, according to those who collect my work. Whether the canvas is small enough to hold in one hand or large enough to walk into, the intention doesn't change: a place that is as much interior as it is geographical.
In my mid-70s, I look for Self in the work, a thing being entirely itself, answerable to no one. The work says what I couldn't otherwise say. What you find in it is yours.
