About this artwork
Some paintings quietly declare themselves finished, and this one was among them. With a knife, I layered muted greens and shifting light on treated masonite, initially thinking only to create a background. Over time, the surface revealed its own presence—a stillness suspended between one breath and the next, fragile yet insistent.
It is not a landscape to visit but a space to inhabit in thought: a pause, a reflection, a memory lingering in the subtle… dialogue of light, colour, and texture.
Framed under glass in a black floating frame, the painting is gently lifted from its backing, allowing its depth and texture to emerge, breathing softly, inviting the viewer into its quiet rhythm.
I’m continuing work for my solo show in June 2026, including new miniatures like this one. I never show my pieces framed, as glass is difficult to photograph.

I paint what I feel. After a life in finance, the palette knife became my primary way of speaking, plainly, without ornament. My subject is land, sea, and sky, held less as record than as memory of standing inside them.
I work in oils, building surface until it holds weight, something to be touched as much as seen, according to those who collect my work. Whether the canvas is small enough to hold in one hand or large enough to walk into, the intention doesn't change: a place that is as much interior as it is geographical.
In my mid-70s, I look for Self in the work, a thing being entirely itself, answerable to no one. The work says what I couldn't otherwise say. What you find in it is yours.
