About this artwork
In this painting, I work with many fine, almost transparent layers of acrylic paint, which I built up gradually. I am particularly interested in this interplay between visibility and dissolution. The form is reminiscent of a leaf, but deliberately remains open and only suggested.
Besides paint, I also used Portuguese graphite chalk and traces of red wine. These materials bring something uncontrolled to the image and leave their own marks – like… small moments that can't quite be captured.
The glazes create a spatial depth in which the form almost seems to float. The dark background reinforces this impression and makes the lighter areas stand out more.
For me, this work is about something fleeting: something that is there one moment and can disappear the next.
