About this artwork
This photograph captures one of Venice’s characteristic transitions — the movement from a narrow canal corridor into the open brightness of the wider waterway beyond. The compressed architectural space slowly unfolds toward light, reflection, and the luminous white facade in the distance.
What interested me was the visual rhythm created by the converging walls, the textured surfaces, and the gentle movement of water carrying the gondola forward.… The scene feels both enclosed and open at once, balancing intimacy with expansion. Venice continually reveals such layered spatial experiences, where even a short passage through the canals becomes a journey through light, color, and history.
The photograph is less about documenting a location than about evoking the sensation of drifting through a living labyrinth shaped equally by architecture and water. The reflections soften the stone surfaces and create a quiet visual dialogue between permanence and movement.
