About this artwork
Shauttuckite is a rare gemstone made of copper silicate and other minerals. It is very heavy. This special stone is drawn like a painting. The colors from blue, turquoise green to rust red are incredibly beautiful.
The lower half of the sculpture is made of bronze. The colors of the patina match the stone.
Stone and bronze are combined in an unusual combination of sculpture and plastic that blends almost seamlessly into one another to create a… sculpture with an intense aesthetic impact. This creates a representational tension, a kind of polarity. The sculpture is unique, a piece of jewelry to be displayed. The patinated surface and raw texture underline the emotionally charged connection between nature and humanity. The path of German painter and sculptor Stefanie von Quast led from studies in painting and graphic design to training in sculpture and bronze casting. She utilizes a variety of techniques and materials to seamlessly transition between painting and sculpture, with particular attention to color, drawing, and surface texture. The focus is on the human being from a unique, positive perspective. Body language and posture intuitively reflect the dynamics of interpersonal relationships.
For several years now, she has been painting using mixed media on thin stone slabs, blending the stone's natural grain with the painting. This represents a further step toward merging painting and sculpture. In her sculptures, special techniques create a harmonious blend of stone and bronze.
She has been working as a freelance artist for over 30 years, with regular exhibitions, art fairs and numerous commissions.
