About this artwork
During lockdown, we were confined to the four walls of our own homes as the news streamed grim and spectacular images of world events into our living rooms. I began by painting these circular scenes from the news media and then realising I had no physical space in which to exhibit this work, I reimagined and furnished rooms I knew from memory, curating the small `Newsblitz´ paintings in these interiors.
In 'Proper Job' I recollect a house-share… full of creatives all looking for work and what we all called a 'proper job' in the late `80s, London SE7.
Paintings curated on the wall; 'Covid workplace in the slaughter-house' Aug 20. 'Lebanon - Beirut' Aug 20. 'Zombie Batteries' Oct 20. Curtain design; Zombie Batteries / woollen weave - occupational hazard in a recycle centre Oct 20. You will notice in this image the black spines on the shlef, full of the burden of art history and the easel, which at this time is pointing in the wrong direction, as the garden explodes with colour !

Susie Wright is a London born artist and curator who lives and works in Germany. With environment at the heart of her practice, she uses a range of experimental processes to create her own personal iconography. Using her experience of place and landscape, she weaves concepts together into multi-layered collections. Works on paper, installation, painting and digital drawing, make up her portfolio.
