About this artwork
A few years ago, a sheet on a clothesline, a painter passing by with 3 primary colors, acrylic inks, sun and a sudden desire to create this blue bull in action.
I express the tension, drama, courage, and violence inherent in bullfighting. The contrast between the bullfighter, an elegant and vulnerable human figure, and the bull, a brute and animal force, is at the heart of the expression. With the bright colors I accentuate the emotional intensity… of the confrontation and the feeling of movement, anticipation, and danger.
I demonstrate the confrontation between man and animal and I seek to convey its emotional essence. The blue bull, almost ghostly or symbolic, represents more than the animal itself: the brute force of nature, destiny, a part of the unconscious. The bullfighter, and his red cape, embodies challenge, skill, and risk-taking.
Born in Villeneuve-sur-Lot, William Marcheval is a polymorphic artist, moving from painting to computer graphics. He practices glazing and sfumato, approaching Impressionism with a touch of naiveté. His constantly evolving works combine realism and abstraction, exploring themes such as tenderness and humanism. Marcheval seeks to evoke wonder, questioning, and escape through his artwork.
