About this artwork
I created this work only with SCHMINCKE liquid charcoal, I used the 3 tones grape seed charcoal for absolute black, cherry stone and peach stone charcoal for the intermediates on a linen canvas. The whole was painted 80% with fingers 20% with brushes. I express the grace, fluidity, energy, passion of dance. The ample movement of the dress, the extended posture of the dancer evoke a feeling of freedom, elevation and intense bodily expression. I chose… monochrome to accentuate the dramatic and timeless aspect of the scene, and to emphasize the shapes and movement. I tell the moment of a dance performance, capture the climax of a movement, of a figure. I celebrate the art of dance, the beauty of the body in movement and the emotion that can transmit an artistic expression. I tell the very essence of dance: expression in gesture and form. A tribute to elegance and discipline.
Born in Villeneuve-sur-Lot, William Marcheval is a polymorphic artist, moving from painting to computer graphics. He practices glazing and sfumato, approaching Impressionism with a touch of naiveté. His constantly evolving works combine realism and abstraction, exploring themes such as tenderness and humanism. Marcheval seeks to evoke wonder, questioning, and escape through his artwork.
