About this artwork
In the history of art, I have noticed that depictions of the Virgin Mary in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance were always painted from the perspective of the time and in contemporary costume. I am thinking in particular of a Madonna painting by Jean Fouquet, who probably used King Charles VII's mistress with her breasts exposed as a model. Or of the "Lactatio San Bernhardino", in which Mary offers her breast milk to Saint Bernard while the Christ… Child suckles at the other breast. As a church painter, I would therefore use a Newtonian model in all its nakedness (which, by the way, Michelangelo had already come up with in his Last Judgement). Here in my painting, Mary's halo is just forming, as she has just been impregnated by God through a bird (turtledove) and chosen as Queen of Heaven.
The picture is elaborately framed with a passepartout and a gold inner border. The format of the paper work is 64 x 48 cm (framed 90 x 68 cm).
Wolfgang Eberhardt, a passionate painter, discovered his artistic talent through emotional experiences. His figurative works are created through careful use of charcoal, color pigments and binding agents, creating images full of magic and impulse. His art is a bridge of communication, with the aim of reaching the viewer deeply and triggering emotion. With love as his strongest force, he always strives to express true human feelings through his art.
