My great-grandparents lost their entire existence after World War I.
My grandfathers took part in World War II and died as a result of the war.
My father became an anti-aircraft gunner at the age of 16 and went to the front at the age of 17.
My uncle was summarily shot for undermining military morale.
My grandparents lost their apartments in Berlin due to bombing.
My mother was raped by Russians.
My parents fled the GDR.
My headmaster at the… boarding school was a former Nazi youth group leader.
He organized promotional trips to the German Navy for us students.
As a result, I was drafted into the German army early after graduating from high school.
After my basic military service, I became a conscientious objector.
During my teaching career I was a pacifist.
Recently my son signed up as a temporary soldier in the German army
