A curation by Natalie Slater, Curator at Singulart - Marc Rayner fills his compositions until they seem close to overflowing. Figures, words, symbols, references, and fragments of everyday life collide across the surface, giving the work an immediate, restless energy. There is humor here, but also unease. Rayner moves between personal observation and the wider noise of contemporary life, pulling politics, popular culture, art history, relationships, and everyday absurdities into the same visual space. Handwritten phrases appear almost like thoughts caught mid-sentence, while his figures stare, gesture, argue, and move through scenes that never quite settle into a single narrative. The roughness is part of the language. Lines remain exposed, words are crossed through, and images overlap or interrupt one another. Nothing feels overly resolved or cleaned up. Instead, Rayner lets the contradictions stay visible. ‘Too Much Information’ brings these works together through that sense of excess—too many images, too many voices, too many things happening at once. The result feels chaotic, funny, anxious, and very much of the moment.
