About this artwork
This painting is inspired by the warm light and architectural harmony of Mediterranean landscapes – a place where color, rhythm, and memory converge. I wanted to capture a moment of stillness along a sun-drenched road, where the light filters through pine trees and casts golden reflections on ochre-colored walls.
Instead of focusing on realistic details, I prioritized form, light, and color. Cypress trees, red roofs, and yellow facades become graphic… elements—not merely shapes, but expressions of mood and temperature. The lines of the tree trunks bring rhythm and movement, creating a visual dialogue between nature and architecture.
The composition is stylized and deliberately composed. It reflects my fascination with the essence of a place – not to reproduce what is visible, but to translate what I feel when I immerse myself in such an environment.
Daria Startseva is a painter with a background in graphic design, trained in Vienna and Helsinki, and, after a career as an art director, devoted herself entirely to art in Zurich. She uses layered oil, acrylic, and mixed media, moving between poetic abstraction and reduced figuration, and experimenting with various media. In her rhythmic, intuitive compositions, she uses color as a vehicle of emotion, making the fleeting visible and the invisible tangible. Her works invite the viewer to intensely experience silent emotions and visual presence.
