About this artwork
The work features a rhythmic and structured composition, based on the repetition of a recurring geometric figure: a stylized human silhouette, composed of a rectangle with a circle superimposed on the upper part – the “hominids”, a recurring visual archetype in Cecconello's poetics.
The figures, cut out or painted in shades of green-blue and superimposed on a deep blue background, seem to float or fall in an undefined space, as if suspended in an… orderly but disorienting void.
This visually simple yet meaningful work showcases the repetition and uniformity of humankind in contemporary society. The "hominids," faceless and indistinguishable from one another, are scattered, tilted, and rotated, yet always enclosed within their own perimeter.
The dominant color, blue, cools the scene and accentuates the feeling of detachment, isolation, almost a digital or post-industrial echo.
Gastone Cecconello (Vercelli, 1942) is an Italian artist with over fifty years of activity. His research develops through painting, sculpture, and mixed media, constructing a coherent and recognizable language based on symbolism, matter, and the figure of the hominid as a metaphor for the human condition. His work explores the relationship between the archaic and the contemporary, between memory, myth, and everyday reality, maintaining a constant tension between formal rigor and expressive force. In 2013, the monograph Alle origini del mito, edited by Lorella Giudici, was published, critically retracing the artist's entire career.
