About this artwork
MOTUBO ... The name given to this sculpture comes from Cebuano (Philippines) and means "to grow". Growing up as one escapes perhaps, as one also rises. A very vertical piece with organic graphics: life. In its center, it would be a window, between the bars of which would slip this path of life. A journey of initiation perhaps.
Made of solid wood (oak), this sculpture has a textured surface, like so many ritual scarifications, which catches the light… and reinforces its presence. It was calcined then inked and finally waxed.
Presented on a simple 20 x 20 cm steel base, Motubo can also be removed from this base to be hung directly on a wall.
