In this work, charcoal on paper evokes an open hand, in a dramatic and textured chiaroscuro that pulsates with life and vulnerability in its purest form. The conceptual intervention is subtle yet devastating: discontinuous ochre lines, printed on acetate and superimposed on the glass, trace elliptical orbits that cross the palm and fingers. These are not mere marks; they are the trajectories of a fragmented destiny, an invisible map of chance and… decisions suspended on the flesh. This piece captures the precise moment when human intention encounters the uncontrollable (destiny). It is an unavoidable reflection for the soul contemplating the mystery of its own path.
Oscar Azula primarily uses charcoal and explores the figure and landscape, drawing on his extensive academic training in Colombia and Mexico. He experiments with the interplay of light and shadow, as well as contrasting materials and colors, achieving visual balances that embody the contradictions of contemporary life. His work conveys a powerful reflection on our essential connection to nature and seeks to awaken in the viewer a sense of belonging, respect, and vitality in the face of the tangible and human.
