About this artwork
Set against the iconic backdrop of St. Paul’s Cathedral, I sought to create a scene that alludes to a narrative and backstory for the people on the bridge, moving who they are beyond the concept of anonymous crowds. In the fast pace of London, it is often too easy to view the crowds as shapes; my intention was to imply a richness of narrative to their lives and a sense of individualism.
Through the colours which flow in waves around the figures,… my intention is to evoke an emotional energy that conveys a personal journey to their place in the city. The dynamic blurring of the architectural lines of the Millennium Bridge allow the figures to emerge not as fleeting shadows, but as the heart of the composition and as a life evolving in motion. This piece explores the delicate dance between anonymity and individuality in London, encouraging the viewer to look closer and see the crowds as people with their own profound stories that make them who they are.
« I express the truest version of myself as I was, am, and will be in my work. »
