About this artwork
This picture shows a piece of Baltic Sea beach with an orange parasol and a person underneath, of whom only the hand is visible. In the distance on the sea, the viewer sees a kite surfer. I came across this motif on my holiday on the Baltic Sea and just had to paint it. I love the relaxed expanse that the sea immediately conveys here. There is nothing to do except relax and swim.
I particularly enjoyed painting the sea with indigo and greenish areas.… The umbrella with its orange tones was a great contrast. The background of the picture is in light rose, which gives the picture a warm atmosphere. The oil paint is applied in two layers and this technique gives it a strong luminosity.
This picture brings summer and the sound of the sea into your room.
« The process of color-sensitive, soft, slow painting contrasts with the speed and indifference of everyday life. I take part of my surroundings and make art out of it. »
The perception of Ulla Kutter's environment is shaped by the focus on disharmonious compositions and their aesthetics. The German painter portrays the broken, chaotic, and shining aspects of everyday life in the city. Through her images, she creates possibilities for different levels of perception. Kutter paints using the traditional techniques of old Dutch masters, using oils on canvas.
