About this artwork
Spring Eternal is inspired by the feeling of being completely surrounded by blossom at the height of the season, when colour, light and life seem to fill every corner of the landscape. I wanted the painting to draw the viewer upward into a canopy of vibrant pink blooms, suspended against a glowing turquoise sky and stretching beyond the edges of the canvas.
The composition developed through layers of expressive mark making, allowing drips, splashes… and spontaneous passages of paint to interact freely across the surface. Rich clusters of blossom create a sense of abundance and movement, while lighter areas bring space, atmosphere and a feeling of gentle calm. It is a balance between energy and stillness, exuberance and reflection.
For me, this painting celebrates the enduring promise of renewal and the optimism that arrives with each new season. Filled with colour, warmth and light, it brings an uplifting presence to a space while capturing a sense of timeless beauty.
