About this artwork
It is a solid block of polyurethane, carved and painted. It represents the tension between the inner self and the external influences of society. Two intertwined faces emerge from the surface as a visual metaphor for the multiple versions one projects in order to adapt, fit in, or resist.
In its depth and contrast of forms, Plurality of the Self speaks of the right to preserve a genuine identity without breaking ties with the collective.
In this… work, I have given form to a theme that runs through our lives without us always naming it: how to preserve personal identity amidst external voices. The work shows two faces that share space, contours, and direction, but not destiny. They are neither copies nor shadows, but rather different versions of the same essence confronted by the pressures of society.
The composition, marked by a play of deep lines, delicate curves, and a palette that blends warm and cool tones, generates a feeling of constant internal movement.
Antonio Gea Pérez, a self-taught artist, fuses painting and sculpture, creating large-format, three-dimensional works in polychrome polyurethane, where each piece is unique and certified. His technique consists of carving curves and surfaces to give volume and dynamism to his distinctive contemporary art compositions. He depicts scenes of life, exploring humanity and nature, conveying the tangible emotion of life like a puzzle full of profound meaning.
