About this artwork
In "Memory," the canvas becomes a meditation on the fragile nature of remembering. It explores how painful experiences seem to dissolve into empty spaces, while moments of warmth and beauty often grow brighter with time. As memories fade, certainty gives way to quiet questions, and the past slowly transforms into a story shaped as much by longing as by truth. What once happened becomes intertwined with what we wish had happened, until even shared… memories begin to drift apart. The work invites the viewer to reflect on the stories we tell ourselves to endure, and whether remembering is ever truly about preserving the past, or about learning to live with it.
Babette Hinterleitner is a self-taught painter, printmaker, digital and visual artist, drawing inspiration from her lifelong passion and self-directed studies. Her technique fuses the energetic storytelling of comics and manga with Alphonse Mucha’s fluid compositions and the minimalistic expressiveness of Chinese and Japanese ink styles. In her works, she explores unspoken emotions such as sadness, longing, and hope, creating visual narratives that invite viewers to feel seen, understood, and uplifted.
