This clothed sculpture responds to the desire to address the draped aspect of clothing, whereas I usually draw inspiration from the nude model.
The seated position, with her head resting on her right hand and her gaze lost in the distance, suggests serenity and gives the impression of an escape from the present moment, which explains the title given to the work: "The Dreamer".
The patina, using different shades while remaining in light colors,… brings a lot of softness to this piece.
Chantal Molinié uses sculpture, drawing, and wood and stone carving, enriched by her training at Cornell College of Art and workshops in Nantes. She sculpts nudes and busts from live models by applying flattened balls of clay, leaving the surface unsmoothed, to capture the vibrancy of life. Her expressive, vibrant style captures the ephemeral and fragile beauty of humankind. Her works convey a profound desire to preserve and celebrate existence in the face of oblivion and death. She devoted the year 2025 to the creation of the catalogue raisonné of her sculpted works, which was published in December by Éditions du Livre d'art.
