Always working from a live model, I had this young woman pose for several hours in order to first create a raw clay model. After a few adjustments without the model, I fired this piece to give it solidity before taking it to an art foundry located in Auvergne where the bronze casting could be carried out.
The relatively light and unconventional patina gives this sculpture a certain introspective quality. The pose evokes rigor and impassivity, hence… the chosen title "Imperturbable".
Chantal Molinié uses sculpture, drawing, and wood and stone carving, enriched by her training at Cornell College of Art and workshops in Nantes. She sculpts nudes and busts from live models by applying flattened balls of clay, leaving the surface unsmoothed, to capture the vibrancy of life. Her expressive, vibrant style captures the ephemeral and fragile beauty of humankind. Her works convey a profound desire to preserve and celebrate existence in the face of oblivion and death. She devoted the year 2025 to the creation of the catalogue raisonné of her sculpted works, which was published in December by Éditions du Livre d'art.
