About this artwork
For this pose, the model, while remaining closed in on himself, seems to escape through thought thanks to his head being resolutely turned to the right, as if detached from the present moment, which is nevertheless that of creation.
The very uneven surface that I favoured reflects the work by successive pellets and allows for contrasts in the patina, the raised parts being darker and shinier than the hollows.

Chantal Molinié uses sculpture, drawing, and wood and stone carving, enriched by her training at Cornell College of Art and workshops in Nantes. She sculpts nudes and busts from live models by applying flattened balls of clay, leaving the surface unsmoothed, to capture the vibrancy of life. Her expressive, vibrant style captures the ephemeral and fragile beauty of humankind. Her works convey a profound desire to preserve and celebrate existence in the face of oblivion and death.
She devoted the year 2025 to the creation of the catalogue raisonné of her sculpted works, which was published in December by Éditions du Livre d'art.
