Waves 2 captures a moment of powerful movement at sea, where light, color, and energy meet along the horizon. A dramatic band of glowing red stretches across the sky, gradually dissolving into soft blue tones above. This intense horizon line evokes the emotional charge of sunrise or sunset at the coast—a fleeting moment when the atmosphere seems almost electric.
In the foreground, a large wave rises and begins to curl, its translucent blue body illuminated… by the surrounding light. The crest breaks into white spray and foam, suggesting the force and rhythm of the ocean in motion. The layered water in front of the wave becomes calmer and more diffuse, allowing the eye to rest before returning to the dynamic movement of the breaking surf.
Although inspired by the sea, the work is not meant to depict a specific location. Instead, Waves 2 reflects the idea of an emotional landscape—a visual expression of inner states translated into the language of sky, water, and horizon.

Doreen Gehrke is a self-taught artist and geologist whose scientific background significantly influences her artistic work.
