About this artwork
In this painting I like to extol the serene appearance of a maiden whose bearing, at first glance, seems angelic. But, if one looks at the brilliance of her hair, the depth of her neckline and the peculiar flow of her clothing, one can glimpse the subtle mockery that throbs behind her countenance. Her gaze, raised as if she yearned for the celestial, is mixed with the ardor of an orange background that, far from purity, evokes the fever of human… passions. I wanted the folds of the dress to resemble an impossible wing, twisted by the weight of the flesh, as if vanity and innocence were engaged in a duel of light and shadow. In this way, the “Angelica” that I present embodies the paradox of the sublime and the mundane, reminding us that even the most candid gesture can hide, in its making, the fervent beat of the flesh and the glow of a barely concealed desire.
Eusebio San Blanco explores art with oil and tempera techniques, and his teaching experience in anatomy reflects his mastery of figuration. His style is a fabric of figurative expressionism, nourished by traditional procedures and glazes that evoke deep emotions. His works are a vibrant dialogue between form and feeling, inviting introspective contemplation.
