About this artwork
In this painting I aim to ridicule modern vanity, immortalizing a bunch of young girls who, with the air of empresses, crowd in front of an invisible mirror in their eagerness to capture their own image. With cellphone in hand, chasing their ephemeral portrait, they delve into the artifice of superficiality, turning the moment into a display of narcissism. I intend to freeze a moment, which, loaded with subtle irony, reveals the futility of the eternal…
search for fleeting glory, transforming the digital self-portrait into a cruel mirror that devours narcissism. Their rehearsed poses, canned laughter and immoderate lipstick transform the scene into a comedy of vanity. My brushstroke, in this case loaded with baroque patience, underlines the abyss between the fleeting nature of the “click” and the permanence of a painting made with a complex technique on wood. With this, I intend to exhibit the irony of modernity, where a moment of presumption becomes a monument to fatui.
