About this artwork
This is the last piece from the in continuum series ''Inside the Forest''. These works have their initiation in the ''Canadian West Coast'' pieces. This piece (which is a diptych Roll-Out, consisting of two equal roll-out sections each measuring 185cm high and 110cm wide) was at one point not clearly 'inhabited' by forest dwellers. At this time in mid 2024 I packed it away. Upon reviewing the work recently I decided to return to it. The dwellers…
I longed to see became very pronounced, in particular the wild cat which in many ways has become the cetral focus of the work. The presence of the creatures is the driving force of the picture. They appear to me as if being exposed for a split moment, just like when wild things are sighted, flash, and then they're gone! Here they appear to be locked into just that moment. A second later they will be gone and the forest will appear empty again.
