In the summer of 2024 we made a family road trip through the Halkidiki Peninsula in Greece. For days we traced along the coastlines of turquoise and blue; the sun kept shining everyday. One day we ended up in a somewhat remoter cove. There was a sign and it said this way to Goa. It turned out being a beach cafe overlooking the endless blue with the hilltops in the distance. They gave me a strong coctail and it was on the house. I tried to reproduce… this place, moment and feeling months later in the studio. It started out as a colourful tape collage but then it went much further. In the end I split the picture in two symetrical halves and made it into a diptych. I coated it with epoxy and the colours intensified even more. It's mounted on salmon flesh coloured panels which also work as frames. The figure in the picture can very well be me.
Ivan Jovanovic oRSoF, a Serbian-Canadian painter, printmaker, and visual artist with a rich background in fine arts and filmmaking, thrives on the interplay between direct observation and inventive material application. He embraces an expressive, figurative style—infusing thick impasto, raw industrial materials, and found objects—using gestural techniques inspired by the likes of Van Gogh, Auerbach, and Kiefer. His works pulse with kinetic energy, capturing the vibrancy, turbulence, and contemplative depths of urban and natural landscapes, ultimately inviting the viewer to experience the raw, immediate power of artistic discovery.
