My first journey to the Canadian Pacific Coast continues being an on-going-relevant encounter. A body of paintings (and prints) has already been grouped under the title ''Canadian West Coast.'' This wooden carving is a direct extension of the painted works with the sub-title ''The Spirits Inside the Forest.'' Much like the paintings, it takes a free-form inspiration from the Haida People totem pole carvings. It is, however, the translation of…
the expressive brush work into the wood-substance that figures for me ( I have to think of Baselitz here and his carved-slashed-painted wooden heads corresponding with his 'humans upside down' paintings). I worked with a chain saw: the markings in the wood substituted the gestural application of paint. They became even more visceral. When the slashes of spray paint merged with the cuts, the latent beings shot forth. I think this piece stands for the future of the things to come.

Germany
Ivan Jovanovic oRSoF, a Serbian-Canadian painter, printmaker, and visual artist with a rich background in fine arts and filmmaking, thrives on the interplay between direct observation and inventive material application. He embraces an expressive, figurative style—infusing thick impasto, raw industrial materials, and found objects—using gestural techniques inspired by the likes of Van Gogh, Auerbach, and Kiefer. His works pulse with kinetic energy, capturing the vibrancy, turbulence, and contemplative depths of urban and natural landscapes, ultimately inviting the viewer to experience the raw, immediate power of artistic discovery.
