About this artwork
One destination of the cruise was La Spezia, a port city in Liguria, Italy. It was a very hot day, and I strolled under the arcades of the harbor toward the historic center. On a street with the beautiful name Via Magenta, I heard piano music coming from a multi-story building. I looked up and saw this scene, which I immediately photographed.
Back in the studio, I worked on a color composition for the piece. Without remembering the name of the… street, I chose a magenta shade to contrast with the magnificent palm tree that stood in the garden and reached almost to the second floor.
