About this artwork
This piece is the result of a summer day spent overlooking the vastness of Alcudia Bay in Mallorca. What fascinated me about this place was not only its obvious beauty, but the almost violent encounter of two worlds: the white sand, which seems to melt in the light, and the chaotic architecture of the sun-baked rocks in the foreground.
I've painted the rocky area with a very textured, bold, and impasto brushstroke, aiming to make the viewer almost… feel the temperature of the stone and its irregular surface under the August sun. In contrast, the sea unfolds in a deep, vibrant blue that refreshes the eye and brings balance to the composition.

José Antonio Martín Santos is a painter, draftsman, and printmaker with a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Salamanca and extensive experience in exhibitions and competitions. He primarily uses oil paints, as well as dry techniques such as charcoal, pastel, and Conté crayon, combining the rigor of academic drawing with loose and expressive brushstrokes within a figurative style attentive to detail and atmosphere. His works, focused on Mediterranean landscapes, the human figure, and still lifes, convey contemplation, silence, and wonder at the beauty of light, materials, and the everyday.
