Ses Salines is, for me, much more than a beach; it's a personal sanctuary. This work was born from countless walks along the shore, watching the ever-calm sea merge with a seemingly endless sky. It's one of my favorite spots in Ibiza, not only for its visual beauty, but for what it represents: it's the place where I watch my children grow and enjoy themselves, where time is measured in steps on the sand and games among the rocks.
In this painting,… I wanted to capture the duality between solidity and transparency. The foreground, rich in textures and ochre and pink tones, represents solid ground and the tactile reality of the shore. As the eye moves toward the horizon, the paint becomes more fluid and ethereal to capture the crystalline turquoise blue that makes this beach unique. I used a vibrant and loose brushstroke, hoping the viewer will feel the same calm and freedom I feel when I walk there.
José Antonio Martín Santos is a painter, draftsman, and printmaker with a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Salamanca and extensive experience in exhibitions and competitions. He primarily uses oil paints, as well as dry techniques such as charcoal, pastel, and Conté crayon, combining the rigor of academic drawing with loose and expressive brushstrokes within a figurative style attentive to detail and atmosphere. His works, focused on Mediterranean landscapes, the human figure, and still lifes, convey contemplation, silence, and wonder at the beauty of light, materials, and the everyday.
