This piece belongs to my series on the Ibizan coastline, but it stems from a different impulse than my more meticulous works. It arises from the need to capture the island's essence in a more visceral way.
To achieve this, I moved away from detail and let myself be guided by a loose and bold brushstroke, heavily influenced by my admiration for Impressionism. I worked the paint in an almost sculptural way, allowing it to accumulate and create reliefs… that change depending on the light the painting receives in the room.
With this work, I seek to invite the client into my world: a place where time stands still to admire the small, the wild, and the eternal. It is an invitation to take away a piece of that Mediterranean light which, more than a geographical location, is a state of mind of peace and wonder.
José Antonio Martín Santos is a painter, draftsman, and printmaker with a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Salamanca and extensive experience in exhibitions and competitions. He primarily uses oil paints, as well as dry techniques such as charcoal, pastel, and Conté crayon, combining the rigor of academic drawing with loose and expressive brushstrokes within a figurative style attentive to detail and atmosphere. His works, focused on Mediterranean landscapes, the human figure, and still lifes, convey contemplation, silence, and wonder at the beauty of light, materials, and the everyday.
