Formentera has a unique, almost ethereal light, and Estany Pudent is where that light becomes most intimate. This piece was born from a sunset overlooking this salt lake, a protected space where time seems to be governed by different laws than the rest of the world.
I was captivated by the peace of these boats resting on the still water. In this work, I decided that the emotion of color should prevail over line. I worked with a very loose and vibrant… brushstroke, seeking to have the viewer not only see the boats, but also feel the dampness in the air at sunset and the serenity of the surroundings. The mauve and blue tones and those touches of warm light on the wood are a reflection of my admiration for Impressionism, applied to a landscape that is deeply dear to me.
José Antonio Martín Santos is a painter, draftsman, and printmaker with a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Salamanca and extensive experience in exhibitions and competitions. He primarily uses oil paints, as well as dry techniques such as charcoal, pastel, and Conté crayon, combining the rigor of academic drawing with loose and expressive brushstrokes within a figurative style attentive to detail and atmosphere. His works, focused on Mediterranean landscapes, the human figure, and still lifes, convey contemplation, silence, and wonder at the beauty of light, materials, and the everyday.
