The MadeReady_Paper "Kiss For Ever" was born from my discovery in 2017 of a promotional poster for Shaka Ponk's concert showing a provocative human-ape embrace. This disturbing image triggers a reflection on antispeciesism, its potential excesses, and especially the persistent fantasy of the "ape kiss" associated with HIV.
Eighteen months of critical maturation separate the sampling (March 2017) from the finalization (September 2018). My LARTBATARD… approach allows for this necessary conceptual incubation. The urban wear created in my progressive workshop deconstructs the “disturbing” source image, revealing our process of collective repression. Thus the final visual carries our ambivalence: transgressive fascination and contaminating terror. The promotional “#KISS FOREVER” becomes an impossible interrogation of the limits of the acceptable. This archaeology of the imaginary anticipates the pandemic anxieties of 2020, questioning our anthropocentric boundaries.
I created LARTBATARD, a form of artcycling born from urban collage, to offer contemporary art lovers images that resist simple “scrolling” and invite them to look differently. Using torn posters, printing inks and gestural painting, I develop six families of MadeReady (PhotosReadyMade, MadeReady_Paper, MadeReady_#Paper, MadeReady_Ink#artRevues, MadeReady_PaperInk and MadeReady_DrawInk) which replay the signs of our time and reveal its tensions. My series question identity, the body, migration and the memory of struggles, in a world saturated with images where every face seems replaceable. My works have circulated in galleries, in residences and online, in France and internationally; each piece functions for me as an archaeology of the present, a fragment of humanity to collect before it disappears.
