About this artwork
The ancient Greek philosopher, Epicurus, imagined what might happen if he went to the edge of the universe and reached out his hand in order to address the enigma of infinity and the illusion of bounded space. This image fascinated me as a child and stayed with me as I studied the presocratic philosophers at university.… Today, the infinite universe is still one of the great mysteries unresolved by thought or by science.
The minimalism and essentialism of this painting create space for quiet contemplation, while the minute precision of the egg tempera strokes focus the mind. As the golden needle in the centre pushes against the horizontal boundary line, the boundary simply expands to accomodate it.
The painting is signed and dated on the reverse and has a picture wire attached so that it is ready to hang.
