"human incisions 213" is crafted from a solid larch trunk.
The sculpture was worked exclusively with a chainsaw and a brush machine.
Another special feature of this work is the back, where the tree edge, i.e., the natural growth form of the tree, can still be seen.
The horizontal and vertical cuts in the wood represent the different phases in a person's life.
Larch is generally one of the most weather-resistant native woods and therefore… ideally suited for outdoor use. However, the bark edge is still attached to the back of this piece, and this light-colored layer (sapwood) is not particularly weather-resistant. Therefore, this sculpture is only conditionally suitable for outdoor use.
« I have always been fascinated by abstracting the human body in order to depict it in a simple and elegant form. »
Manfred Hellweger is an Austrian sculptor whose works are already represented by collectors worldwide. He is particularly known for his minimalist approach, in which he reduces forms to their essential elements. Hellweger's work embodies the idea that nothing is permanent; everything evolves and changes. Each of his sculptures reflects a deep engagement with the materials and themes he explores. Despite their simplicity, his works are deeply expressive and, by reducing them to the essentials, offer a metaphor for mindfulness and contentment.
