“human nails bust I” consists of numerous wire pins of different dimensions that have been welded in vertical rows.
The linear structure gives the sculpture a floating lightness, while the metal expresses stability and fragility at the same time. The head is narrowly indicated, the shoulders are emphasized by the horizontal arrangement of the nails. Depending on the viewing angle and the incidence of light, the perception changes - sometimes the… figure seems tangible, sometimes dissolved.
The base is made from an old, brushed spruce beam from a demolished barn. The distinctive grain, the aged structure and the preserved wood joints tell of the past and recycling. The contrast between the natural wood and the precise metal nails reflects the tension between transience and permanence, nature and technology.
« I have always been fascinated by abstracting the human body in order to depict it in a simple and elegant form. »
Manfred Hellweger is an Austrian sculptor whose works are already represented by collectors worldwide. He is particularly known for his minimalist approach, in which he reduces forms to their essential elements. Hellweger's work embodies the idea that nothing is permanent; everything evolves and changes. Each of his sculptures reflects a deep engagement with the materials and themes he explores. Despite their simplicity, his works are deeply expressive and, by reducing them to the essentials, offer a metaphor for mindfulness and contentment.
