About this artwork
QUADRATUM. Like a window, a space opens.
To the rigor of the square form, oppose the lines which cross it. They are soft and light.
These lines transform and underline this space of freedom, this possible escape.
Sculpted, then calcined, this unique piece exudes a strong presence. The texture of its perimeter recalls the passage of time, this timelessness dear to the artist and very present in his work in general. Rich in its raw surface, its… faults and its reliefs, this piece catches the eye and the light.
This sculpture, until then part of the artist's private collection, was made from a block of solid oak.
Made to be hung on the wall like a canvas, it can however be presented on a support.
It can also find its place in a wall opening between two rooms ...

« Trying to reach the essential, in all its simplicity, humility and authenticity. Attempt to touch my own authenticity. »
Whether painting, sculpting or writing, Marc Laffolay strives for a direct, meditative and impulsive gesture.
He strives to banish any intervention of the mind, to privilege the spontaneous act, sincerity, without conscious reference to fashions and other trends.
For him, these are the conditions of authenticity.
