About this artwork
Chile. December 2018.
I meet my Chilean niece, Valentina, who's three years younger than me. She wants to take me camping in a national park with her friends. There's a lake, invasive eucalyptus forests, and two abandoned fishing huts that can be used as diving boards. Perfect for them. Not so perfect for me.
I hid behind my camera, capturing their dives. Then I put it aside. And finally, I jumped too.
This photo precedes my jump. It's water.… Heat. Emptiness. The vitality of letting go.
"La pulenta." It's a colloquial word used by young Chileans. It means "It's great." That was it.
