About this artwork
I always work with models to provide the information that I require to explore the ideas to create my paintings. Initially they may be used as 'clothes hangers' and I bend and shape them like a puppet master, but sometimes, as I get to know them, their own 'stories' begin to generate new ideas. Although I paint figures I am not interested in portraiture and strive for that elusive 'look' that expresses what I am seeking (I always feel slightly embarrassed…
that the paintings that I do from, and about them, don't depict them as they are). I am not sure exactly why I created this image (or any image for that matter) but I have a feeling that this image arose from a collaboration with a particular model.
