About this artwork
This painting was to be the top canvas of a diptych titled "Impediment". Originally my intention was to portray the dichotomy between the surface appearance of people and the inner person. The top image to represent the outward stability of people (hence the pyramid shape) and the bottom the inner life of vulnerability and self doubt. When I saw the top image (seen here) I realised that the ambiguity of the girls expression encapsulated everything…
