About this artwork
The work “Archane” is an intense female portrait that I created with graphite and pigments, with the aim of investigating the human psyche and the complexity of the face. The subject, arranged in three-quarters with a direct and penetrating gaze, immediately captures the attention of the observer, inviting him to an intimate and profound dialogue. The choice to place the face in the foreground, with the most illuminated side in evidence, creates… a suggestive contrast with the dark background, interrupted by spots of red color that almost seem to emerge from the darkness. This dichotomy between light and shadow, between visible and invisible, underlines the duality of the human soul and the presence of an inner world full of nuances. The dense pattern of parallel lines, which defines the features of the face, gives the work a sense of order and control, almost as if to underline the rationality that often tries to dominate emotions.
Nicola De Luca, an architect from Naples and an artist born in Torre di Ruggiero, expresses his mastery in drawing. Through precise lines and touches of graphite, De Luca creates female portraits of remarkable intensity. His works emanate an intense and mysterious atmosphere, capturing the essence of the human soul through expressive female faces.
