About this artwork
“The Way to the Holy Grail” is a watercolor that captures the spiritual and architectural essence of Valencia’s historic heart, evoking the imposing presence of the cathedral and its symbolism linked to the tradition of the Holy Chalice. The work is constructed with an ethereal atmosphere, where the wet-on-wet technique allows volumes to emerge amidst soft glazes and fluid chromatic transitions.
The composition combines elements of Valencian Gothic… architecture—pointed arches, rose windows, and ascending verticality—with a contemporary interpretation in which light diffuses among emerald greens, turquoises, and golden hues. The human figures, barely suggested, provide scale and narrative, guiding the viewer on a visual journey that leads to the main door, a symbol of both physical and spiritual access.
This work represents not only an architectural space, but an experience: the journey towards the sacred, towards the symbolic, towards living history.
