About this artwork
The fanned-out hole loops attempt to create very different design impressions depending on the perspective. The first step was to generate a winding wall in a "serpentine" line (from a bird's eye view) from the acacia blank by making counter-rotating cuts with a chainsaw. A thin band that looks like bulges from the front and like fanned surfaces from the side. The circular opening in the upper third and the trunk-shaped bulge in the outer middle…
evoke associations of an organic being or an extraterrestrial skeleton. The large, oval overall opening in turn reinforces the appeal of the "fanning" by allowing an inside view.
