About this artwork
The idea was initially clear, like a sketch in my mind. But in the execution, the process began to unfold. The canvas, coated with white high-gloss varnish, was still wet when blue oil paint was sprayed on it. The surface reacted immediately, absorbing the paint while simultaneously holding it at a distance. Into this state, I threw and flung balloons and paint-filled bags, filled with various media—watery and oily. As they burst, the colors dispersed… and blended with the surface. What initially appeared as a multitude of events settled into a cohesive layer. In the end, a unique little world emerged. Structures evoked paths, rivers, islands, and dense areas. Less a representation, more an suggestion. The painting didn't arise from the imposition of an idea, but from allowing the process to unfold.
Rupert Bronner, an architect by training, is a gifted painter, draftsman, and photographer whose artistic focus is on the transition between architecture and fine art. With intuitive freedom and a risky balancing act, he employs bold color choices and material qualities, using his drawings as a guide for his hauntingly abstract oil and acrylic works. His art is a thrilling journey of discovery and a communication of his inner stance, conveying an exhilarating sense of liberation from the constraints of reality.
