About this artwork
The 30.5 x 22 cm format is that of the frame. The drawing is on 300mg watercolor paper.
I wanted to represent this salamander as a luminous apparition in the darkness. Its body, rendered in shades of blue, creates a distance from reality, entering a more dreamlike, almost symbolic territory.
Often discreet and invisible, here she becomes the main subject, suspended in a silent space, between fragile presence and vital energy. The contrast between… the deep black background and the light emanating from her body accentuates this impression of floating, as if she were experiencing a moment outside of time.
In the popular imagination, the salamander is a creature associated with fire, transformation, and rebirth. I love this contradiction: an animal of cold light that carries within it an inner, almost secret strength.

I paint in oil on linen canvas, often in large format, with a predilection for the range of blues.
