This picture is painted on stone veneer, on a marble slab only approximately 2 mm thick. I developed this unique technique myself several years ago. The stone is stabilized on the back with fiberglass and synthetic resin and mounted on a wooden panel. The picture is framed with an aluminum floater frame. It weighs only approximately 3.5 kg and is very stable.
When painting in a mixed media, I immerse myself entirely in the natural color, pattern,… and texture of the stone slab. The slab is my inspiration. The painting blends harmoniously with the structure and pattern of the stone to create a complete picture. The transitions between stone and painting are fluid and sometimes barely noticeable.
This marble slab is drawn horizontally, with the marble crystals clearly visible. Only the figure's posture and clothing give the impression that a strong gust of wind is blowing through the painting.
« Whatever the material, form or approach, one topic always remains paramount: the human being. »
The path of German painter and sculptor Stefanie von Quast led from studies in painting and graphic design to training in sculpture and bronze casting. She utilizes a variety of techniques and materials to seamlessly transition between painting and sculpture, with particular attention to color, drawing, and surface texture. The focus is on the human being from a unique, positive perspective. Body language and posture intuitively reflect the dynamics of interpersonal relationships.
For several years now, she has been painting using mixed media on thin stone slabs, blending the stone's natural grain with the painting. This represents a further step toward merging painting and sculpture. In her sculptures, special techniques create a harmonious blend of stone and bronze.
She has been working as a freelance artist for over 30 years, with regular exhibitions, art fairs and numerous commissions.
