A sculpture of great human quality, it represents a grandmother. It is made of exquisite olive root wood, with a natural slate base and a polished brass head. The skin blends seamlessly with the clothing, creating a striking, almost sculptural effect: the wind seems to be carrying the old woman away. It represents the fragility that very elderly people experience when they walk. In the world of woodworking, finding a root of this size and cleanliness… is truly difficult; if it is also in a perfect state of hardness, it is miraculous. This was the case with this wood. The image of my grandmother was easy to capture; she had a large, worn hip, and because of this, it seemed as if the wind were about to carry her away. This is the emotion that created this sculpture, so intense, so unique, and so full of history. The olive tree could be more than 500 years old; it had been drying for over 60 years.
